Job Description
The Business Operations Manager is an operational partner who leads multiple business operations activities. This role works closely with AEI Leadership, vendors, Finance, Purchasing, Consulting Groups, Legal, and the Office of Ethics and Compliance (OEC). Ensures smooth logistical support of department projects and initiatives. Demonstrates the ability to work independently to solve operational problems while identifying primary business needs or decisions for management to review.
Responsibilities:
- Supports and monitors the operational aspects of the AEI business portfolio for cross-AEI capital projects: manage Intake, tracking, communication, end-of-year summary, and reconciliation with Finance.
- Provides project management support for Capital and Functional financial cycle activities and any other functional projects as needed: Prepares status reports and dashboards using standard templates, tracks risks and mitigation plans; tracks issues and facilitates resolution; schedules team meetings; establishes agendas, keeps minutes, manages timelines, creates deliverables and gains approvals, manages artifacts of historical documents).
- Manages and supports the creation of process deliverables (tracking spreadsheets, business cases, PowerPoint summary, and visuals) for AEI Functional Budget Cycles, including LRP, Plan, and capital project monthly LBEs. Develops AEI cross-functional project proposals for the Long-Range Planning (LRP), Plan, and budget planning efforts.
- Maintains, adapts, socializes, and shepherds the utilization of the AEI Resource Model to forecast people resource needs based on the AbbVie Pipeline during financial cycles and acquisition planning.
- Responsible for executing the end-to-end contract process for all AEI, including assisting with planning, development, training, ongoing enhancements, reporting, and relationship with Vendor Management/Consulting stakeholders; Liaison for Third Party Worker programs; managing all related activities, including initiation of the request, management of the request process, reconciliation, analysis, and budget forecasting.
- With direction from the Director of Strategy & Communications, responsible for completing cross-functional projects and strategic initiatives related to Business Operations deliverables. Gains buy-in from management and other appropriate parties.
- Responsible for suggesting process efficiencies related to their business operations area and contributing to identifying gaps. May be assigned to lead change efforts to the current process, focusing on continuous improvement to support and build culture.
- Provides input to procedures and work instructions to support the vision and strategy for their specific business operations area. Create/maintain process flow diagrams depicting activities. Develops and delivers relevant training to Business Owners, Vendors, and other appropriate parties.
- Demonstrates knowledge in utilizing multiple systems/software tools (Innotas, QUEST, SRM, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, Vendor Master, Magellan, Midas, SRM, Salesforce, Org Plus, Fieldglass) to capture, read, analyze, and report pertinent data.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree is required.
- 3 years of pharma, health care, or industry-related experience preferred, with 3 years experience in a business operations role; and/or experience in finance/accounting/procurement preferred.
- Project Management Certification a plus (e.g., Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
- Experience working in a complex and matrixed environment is required.
- Robust communication skills, both oral and written, are required. The ability to craft compelling business cases and sell new ideas is preferred.
- A minimum of 6 years of project planning and management experience, including successful implementation of business and/or technology initiatives, is preferred.
- Experience analyzing complex business problems and facilitating the design of innovative solutions preferred.
- Experience managing contracts and vendor management processes is required.
Broad experience in business operations role preferred. .s, QUEST, SRM, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, Vendor Master, Magellan, Midas, SRM, Salesforce, Org Plus, Fieldglass) to capture, read, analyze, and report pertinent data.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
