Director of Marketplace Merchandising

Max Retail enables the preservation and growth of the independent retail industry through its platform that easily and frictionlessly connects the supply of unsold inventory to a global network of demand. Max Retail will become the largest supply chain that holds zero inventory, integrated everywhere inventory is managed and sold.

As a Director Marketplace Merchandising for Max Retail, you will own the success of our sales channels, sellers’ inventory sell-through, and advocating to convert from people-powered processes to streamlined tech-enabled workflows. This role will require deep knowledge of e-commerce, marketplace dynamics, and retail fundamentals. The Director Marketplace Merchandising is a new position at Max Retail so you will get to build this department and team from the ground up.


What You'll Do:

    • Identify assortment opportunities for each sales channel - what assortment we need more and how to promote it
    • Develop customer experience strategy per sales channel - traffic drivers, visibility and discoverability, and conversion (from detail page click to purchase)
    • Identify how technology could streamline levers for sales (i.e. price, inventory coverage, etc)
    • Oversee inventory allocation gaps - why inventory is more productive in one sales channel vs other; why inventory is delisted from Max Retail before it is sold.
    • Define strategy for aged inventory by brand and sales channel Merchandising Strategy:
    • Develop a merchandising strategy across multiple sales channels with their own sales drivers, customer profile, and assortment needs
    • Define an execution plan to grow sales across multiple marketplaces
    • Ability to analyze market trends, customer behavior, and competitor activities to identify opportunities and threats.
    • Understand online shopping trends and recommend future partnerships
    • Deep knowledge of e-Commerce fundamentals and levers to drive online sales growth (Traffic, Conversion, AOV).
    • Familiarity with e-commerce platforms and trends, including online merchandising best practices.
    • Understanding of digital marketing strategies and their impact on merchandising
    • Reporting master! Maintaining large set of dashboards for quick access to sales channel and inventory performance such as age, sell-through, pricing, sell-through, etc
    • Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions on sales channel expansion
    • Analyze financial performance, set targets, and monitor key performance indicators
    • Work closely with the Marketplace Operations, Success and Product Management teams to find opportunities for sales growth and automation
    • Becomes a valued stakeholder for the Growth team as we add more sales channels and hit aggressive sales targets

Who You Are:

    • You have 5+ years of experience in e-commerce merchandising and/or category management
    • Experience with SQL
    • You have worked with product and engineering teams to automate or create internal tools to solve for inefficiencies with key inputs for customer experience
    • You have a passion for e-commerce and retail
    • You have an analytical mindset: can get insights from complex data to understand demand drivers
