Location: Hybrid. Amsterdam / Leeuwarden, Netherlands* OR Valencia, Spain

*if Netherlands-based, it is anticipated that 1 week per month will be required to be onsite in our Valencia office. Therefore, a living location near to Schipol is preferred

Job Overview, in this exciting role, you will:

  • Steer the engineering vision and strategy for our product, ensuring alignment with our company goals
  • Lead and mentor a passionate distributed team of engineers, fostering talent and encouraging personal development
  • Collaborate with other leadership team members to create a culture of excellence and innovation
  • Oversee the architecture and technology stack, making key decisions that impact our ability to scale and respond to market needs
  • Be a champion for Agile practices within the engineering team, continuously seeking ways to enhance productivity and product quality
  • Engage with product management and other stakeholders to prioritise key features and deliver exceptional value to our customers

Overview of Key Capabilities, Skills and Experience

•Proven ability to create and maintain high performance global teams. Strong understanding of how to acquire, nurture and develop talent. Our VP will be experienced in managing under-performance to consistently evolve standards

•Results-oriented, adaptable leader who takes ownership and delivers on commitments. Focused on solution delivery rather than obstacles, even in challenging circumstances. Will naturally take ownership to lead from the front

•Rounded Leader who brings strategic-thinking, providing a net uplift from their team(s). Able to add value in crafting the strategic objectives, motivating and inspiring their organisation to deliver on their vision

•Delivery focus, bringing leadership on all aspects of engineering excellence including agile methodologies. Nuanced approach with ability to work within existing structures where required

•Strong technical acumen across logical & physical architecture, design, and implementation. Though not a technical / coding role, our new VP will be highly comfortable at all levels of technical conversations, capable of driving to the correct decision based on available facts 

•Relationship builder and conflict resolver - understands the importance of strong relationships with both peers and stakeholders. Comfortable managing strong personalities within the team, together with experience of successfully managing remote, distributed teams

•Focused on team success, not individual glory. Collaborative team-player who builds collective success, through a meritocracy culture where all team members are empowered to contribute to shared goals

*Experience in building strategic partnerships with product teams, balancing technical scaling needs with market demands and ensuring cohesive product development

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a significant portion in a leadership role
  • A proven track record of building and managing high-performing, distributed engineering teams within a high-growth, international SaaS company
  • Deep expertise in modern tech stacks and cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and a passion for fostering a culture of continuous improvement
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence beyond the engineering team
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and the ability to make strategic technology decisions
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset, with a focus on delivering quality results
  • Fluent in English; additional languages (Spanish and/or Dutch) are a plus!

Bonus Skills

  • Prior experience in SaaS or analytics software development.
  • Familiarity with ESG principles and sustainability practices.
  • Experience in mentoring and coaching other leaders in the organisation.
