Who we’re looking for; 
 
Graylog is growing and as part of our growth, we’re currently recruiting for a Vice President of Engineering who has a passion for building technology and leading teams of highly talented engineers on a global level.
 
The VP of Engineering will be a dynamic and results-driven leader with a passion for technology and people leadership. This individual will oversee all engineering function and ensure the successful delivery of secure, scalable, and innovative security solutions.
 
As the VP of Engineering, you will partner and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align technical strategies with business goals whilst inspiring and leading our brilliant engineering organisation.
 
The VP of Engineering will focus on Graylog’s entire portfolio of products (Graylog Open, Cloud, and Security).  
 
As a VP of Engineering, you’ll have a variety of experience and skills ranging from technical skills, leadership, project management, communication, and collaboration to name but a few. You’ll have a detailed understanding of software architecture and design including experience with log management and security.
 
The VP of Engineering will report to our Chief Technology Officer based in the US.

Additional responsibilities will include but are not limited to;

    • Collaborate with product management and architecture on the strategic vision and roadmap and align the engineering organization to execute on that vision successfully.
    • Lead the engineering organization which includes teams of engineering managers, engineers, cloud engineers, site reliability engineers, and QA.
    • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and career development to engineering leaders.
    • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders within Graylog to ensure the successful delivery of software products.
    • Manage the software development lifecycle, from design to release, ensuring that products are delivered on time, on budget, and meet quality standards.
    • Continuously look for ways to improve the engineering team's processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency and quality.
    • Provide technical leadership and guidance to the engineering team and cloud team.
    • Implement and manage metrics and KPIs for the organization.
    • Ensure the successful delivery of software products by tracking and managing project timelines, risks, and dependencies.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including product management, architecture, customer success, and sales teams.
    • Define technical guidelines for engineering teams to adhere to, including designing solutions to cross-cutting concerns and new major projects.
    • Help define processes and procedures to ensure software performance, security, and telemetry and metrics are considered.
    • Evaluate new tools and standards for our technology stack.
    • Guide the engineering teams, if necessary, to assist engineers with complicated escalated support issues.
    • Determine and communicate constraints for planned features and software design changes.
    • Manage with the Cloud Services Team to ensure that technology decisions in the product and the cloud environment work well together.
    • Manage the cloud architecture for cost optimization and customer experience.
    • Hire and retain top talent for the engineering organization.

A little bit about you;

    • Proven success as a senior engineering leader with multiple years of progressive experience, including software development and DevOps, ideally in the security domain.
    • Extensive experience in software architecture, software design, data systems, and cloud.
    • Broad knowledge and experience in the areas of Java, cloud, centralized log management, compliance, and security products
    • A solid understanding of the Graylog product or similar log management solutions.
    • Exceptional leadership and communication skills with a track record of building high-performance, diverse, and inclusive teams.
    • Experience with managing remote teams across multiple time zones.
    • Experience in building proof of concepts to evaluate new technologies and ideas (and not being afraid of throwing them away).
    • Keep the big picture in mind while not neglecting critical details.
    • Graylog does not solely hire employees based on qualifications however the VP of Engineering may have further education such as a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Cyber Security.
    • Prior experience in leading engineering teams in a growth mode environment.
    • Previous cyber security experience i.e. Log Management, SIEM, API Security, or related technology.
