Job Description

Ridgeline is seeking a Linux Systems Administration Intern to support our IT and infrastructure teams in managing and maintaining critical systems. This internship is ideal for individuals passionate about Linux administration, system support, and IT operations. You will gain hands-on experience with Tier 1 and Tier 2 helpdesk support, system monitoring, troubleshooting, and automation in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do:

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support, assisting users with system issues, troubleshooting hardware and software problems, and escalating as necessary.
  • Assist in Linux system administration, including user account management, system updates, and security patching.
  • Monitor system performance, logs, and network activities to identify and resolve potential issues.
  • Support server maintenance tasks such as configuration, backup, and recovery operations.
  • Work with the IT team to document common technical issues and solutions.
  • Assist in automating routine administrative tasks using shell scripting and other automation tools.
  • Collaborate on deployments and upgrades of enterprise IT solutions.
  • Maintain and update system documentation, knowledge base articles, and internal IT resources.

Qualifications

Must Haves:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related STEM field.
  • Strong interest in Linux administration, system troubleshooting, and IT support.
  • Familiarity with command-line tools, shell scripting, and system monitoring.
  • Basic understanding of networking, cybersecurity principles, and IT infrastructure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Due to the nature of our work, US Citizenship is required.

Additional Information

Internship Details:

  • Ridgeline's 2025 Internships begin on June 2, 2025, and extend through August.
  • Internships are predominantly situated at Ridgeline's headquarters campus in McLean, VA. However, in certain instances, remote work may be allowed.
  • Applicants must be capable of remaining stationary for 50% of the time. Occasionally, movement within the office environment may be required.
  • The role involves continuous interaction with computers and other office productivity equipment.
