Job Description

Works under the supervision of a Director to develop and execute outcomes research to demonstrate the value of AbbVie’s products either internationally or for the U.S. market. Develops outcomes research plans outlining the strategic approach for generating required evidence and research outputs, primarily focused on 1-2 indications within the same product, or on 1-2 products within the same indication. Understands and establishes the partnership with other evidence generation functions and CoEs within V&E to deliver innovative and impactful HEOR evidence. Able to identify new opportunities for partnership within the matrix organization that are critical for the HEOR evidence delivery. Presents multiple health outcomes research findings internally to AbbVie and externally via the peer-review process. In addition, they identify and build research relationships with key clinical and outcomes thought leaders, resulting in research collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops the conceptual framework for economic models and the required analyses to populate the models. Manages the creation of economic models and their supporting materials
  • Manages creation and revision of Outcomes Research Plan (e.g., strategic imperatives, value messages, research priorities). Drives translation and quality check of PRO Instrument and Clinical Research Form (CRF)
  • Operates in a role supporting a brand or asset lead. Partners with relevant HEOR COE functions to ensure delivery of HEOR projects
  • Synthesizes complex data in the creation of value messages for use in dossiers, either for the US or International. With support, clearly articulates asset strategies and assists in developing strategic plans.
  • Leads development, validation, submission, licensing, and administration of Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) measures for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies
  • Identifies, assesses, and builds a plan to fill research gaps and objectives for studies within their therapeutic areas (TAs) to determine appropriate outcomes research strategy, research objectives, studies, and tactical plan. Conducts research gap analysis, drafts / revises protocol synopsis, develops statistical analysis plan
  • Manages and conducts evidence generation and documentation (e.g., gap analysis strategy, model scope and framework, protocol synopsis, study reports, and stakeholder training and communications)
  • Develops and manages publication creation, review / approval, submission and presentation of research in peer-reviewed journals and at medical / methodological congresses.
  • Provides support to the department on health outcomes technical specialty areas (e.g., economic modeling techniques to ensure health technology assessments (HTAs) needs are met globally, PRO methods, and understanding regulatory requirements to obtain PROs on labels)
  • Anticipates and leads the development of strategies and tactics to support department operational needs. Understands the strategic context for the projects assigned to execute and able to present findings within the same context to the cross functional team.

This is a hybrid role based in Lake County, IL - there is potential that this could be remote

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in health economics or related discipline
  • Minimum of three years working experience with Master’s, two years with PhD (can include fellowship experience). Professional training in a health field (MD, PharmD, etc.) is a plus
  • Experience in Oncology is preferred
  • Firmly grounded in the scientific fundamentals of one or more of the core HEOR specialties (epidemiology, biostatistics, patient reported outcomes, health services research, economics, clinical practice or behavioral science).
  • Capable of performing health economic projects from inception through publication and application with minimal oversight.
  • Proven track record of strategic thinking, operational excellence and good communication skills.
  • Good understanding of drug development and commercialization process.
  • The Senior Manager should have proven expertise in the pharmaceutical industry in the following:
  1.     Creation of economic models (budget impact and cost effectiveness)
  2.     Retrospective and prospective observational research studies / analyses
  3.     The development and validation of Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) measures, and analyses of      PRO data.
