Senior DB2 Systems Programmer (Remote)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and technically skilled Senior DB2 Systems Programmer with deep expertise in IBM DB2 and z/OS mainframe environments. This role will be responsible for the installation, configuration, tuning, and support of DB2 databases on IBM mainframes, ensuring the performance, availability, and security of our database systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience managing DB2 in a z/OS environment, with a strong focus on system programming, troubleshooting, and optimization. This is a 6 month contract to hire and requires ability to obtain a DOJ Public Trust.

Responsibilities:

    • DB2 Database Installation and Configuration:
    • Install, upgrade, and configure DB2 subsystems in z/OS environments, ensuring compatibility and performance standards.
    • Configure DB2 environments for optimal performance, tuning database and system parameters as needed.
    • Plan and execute version upgrades, including migration to new releases, patches, and maintenance.
    • Performance Tuning and Optimization:
    • Monitor and tune DB2 databases to maintain peak performance and system efficiency.
    • Analyze performance data and system metrics to identify, diagnose, and resolve bottlenecks.
    • Develop, implement, and refine performance tuning procedures, focusing on both database and system performance.
    • Problem Resolution and Troubleshooting:
    • Proactively identify potential system issues and implement solutions to prevent performance degradation or outages.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve DB2 and z/OS system-related issues, working closely with cross-functional teams as needed.
    • Respond to and resolve incidents, working collaboratively with other IT teams and DBAs to ensure minimal disruption.
    • Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Recovery:
    • Implement and maintain DB2 backup and recovery procedures, including automated job scheduling.
    • Collaborate on disaster recovery planning, testing, and implementation to ensure DB2 systems are recoverable in case of failure.
    • Ensure data integrity and reliability through regular recovery testing and validation.
    • Security and Compliance:
    • Establish and enforce DB2 security protocols in accordance with company policies and industry standards.
    • Manage and audit database access, ensuring that security controls and compliance requirements are met.
    • Assist with compliance reporting and remediation for DB2 database systems.
    • Documentation and Process Improvement:
    • Maintain detailed documentation of DB2 and z/OS configurations, tuning, and operational procedures.
    • Develop and implement process improvements, optimizing the efficiency and reliability of DB2 and mainframe operations.
    • Mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and training as needed.
$60 - $75 an hour
