Payroll Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee and execute payroll operations for our Canadian and US employees. This role will be transitioning payroll from our Finance Department to People & Culture for the first time and has a unique opportunity to establish new processes and support the expansion of employee programs.

Here’s How You Make an Impact:

    • Own the full payroll cycle and process semi-monthly payroll for Canadian employees in ADP WorkforceNow and for US employees in Justworks, issuing ROEs and responding to Service Canada inquiries.
    • Handle onboarding into payroll, employee information updates, terminations, commissions, bonuses, stock plan, and expense reimbursements.
    • Responsible for year-end payroll reporting including T4s and W2s, reconciling payroll data and processing T4 adjustments as needed.
    • Assist the People & Culture Operations team with flex fund program and communications as well as other benefits administrationResponsible for administering all details of Wave’s LTIP and STIP plans.
    • Manage employee communication, including organization-wide notifications and answering employee’s payroll inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
    • Maintain and update payroll records, including deductions, garnishments, and benefits, and partner with Finance to handle handle payroll-related government remittances.
    • Review and reconcile monthly benefit premiums and invoices, and calculate premiums to be deducted from each employee.
    • Responsible for continuous transformation of the payroll process, by identifying streamlining opportunities and ensuring compliance with internal controls, while bringing industry best practices and tools to the organization.
    • Monitor federal and provincial legislation impacting payroll, ensure compliance, and advise management on necessary actions.
    • Stay updated on payroll requirements by agencies (CRA, WSIB, etc.)Lead and prepare for internal and external audits, and participate in projects focused on payroll, enhancements, and new program rollouts.

You Thrive Here By Possessing the Following:

    • 5 years of experience processing Canadian and US payroll.
    • Proven experience in payroll management, with a strong preference for experience in fast-paced or scaling organizationsPayroll certification (e.g., PCP, CPM, CPP) is required.
    • Proficiency in payroll systems and tools (e.g., ADP, Justworks, etc.).
    • Strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional payroll compliance, including salaried, contract, and equity compensation.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills.
    • Ability to work independently and establish or enhance processes.
    • Strong collaboration skills to partner effectively across HR, Finance, and external vendors.
    • A proactive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement and problem-solving.
