Lead Full Stack Software Engineer: Mission-Critical Defense Software

Our products include Farsight, a 3D processing and mission planning tool, and Identifi, which enables secure and rapid identity verification. Our team has deep experience in 3D visualization, photogrammetry, applied machine learning, computer vision, and autonomy. You will collaborate with all Reveal teams to define and execute the technical roadmap for Farsight, Identifi, and our future products, which focus on the intersection of Command and Control and Artificial Intelligence.

We're looking for a Full Stack or Backend Engineer to lead the initial system design and build the MVP from the ground up. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, values military readiness and logistics, and wants to own the architectural and operational backbone of a highly impactful system.

Responsibilities


      • System Design & Architecture
    • Lead the technical architecture for backend services and core infrastructure.
    • Design modular components for mission command and staff management (which could include constraint-based scheduling, task mapping, workflow automation, and using artificial intelligence to assist users with a wide range of operational and non-operational tasks)

      • Backend Development
    • Build and scale RESTful APIs (or GraphQL) to power training workflows and data models.
    • Experience with relevant python approaches in Ruby on Rails and/or Django.
    • Integrate with DoD systems using secure data pipelines.
    • Design robust data models for training events, unit hierarchies, METL tasks, and evaluations.

      • Data Integration
    • Lead initiatives to “liberate” mission data from myriad repositories; Build pipelines to move data into storage and processing capabilities; Develop ways to organize and operationalize data and then visualize it in a way that helps people make decisions.
    • JSON, XML, CSV processing and operationalizing will be recurring tasks.
    • Building data processing and ETL pipelines using Apache Kafka or NiFi will almost certainly be required.
    • A curiosity to fuse, integrate, and enrich new types of data is a requirement.

      • Full Stack
    • Collaborate with frontend tools and component libraries (e.g., React, Tailwind, shadcn/ui).
    • Develop interactive tools like drag-and-drop calendars, progress dashboards, and resource planners.

      • DevOps & Deployment
    • Must have experience using/building container-based systems and must be proficient in using Docker; Kubernetes experience is a plus.
    • Implement CI/CD pipelines for testing and deployment.
    • Deploy infrastructure using AWS GovCloud, Azure Government, or secure DoD environments.
    • Prioritize security, access control, and offline sync capabilities from day one.

Requirements

    • 7+ years of experience in backend or full stack development (Node.js, Python, Ruby or Go preferred).
    • 5+ years in a leadership role, mentoring junior engineers and taking team ownership.
    • Strong grasp of database architecture (PostgreSQL, or similar); Develop design schemas; build and manage relational models.
    • Experience with authentication/authorization best practices.
    • Familiarity with scalable, sustainable architectures and modular backends.
    • Prior work with DoD systems or military logistics/training software.  (e.g., SSO, DoD CAC integration, OAuth2, x509).
    • Experience with project mapping tools (e.g., task hierarchy engines, Gantt timelines) and project management -type tools; experience with Geospatial Information Systems is also a plus.
    • Knowledge of military doctrine, niche data, and mission sets, or working with military SMEs.
    • Comfort working in fast-moving, early-stage environments.

Nice to Haves

    • Understanding of RMF compliance, FedRAMP, or NIST 800-53 security standards.
    • Familiarity with frontend technologies (React, TypeScript, Tailwind) is a plus.
    • Ability to obtain a Government Security Clearance

Compensation

    • Salary (~$170,000 - $200,000) + Equity 
    • Salary is determined by the applicant's experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
