Freelance 2D Concept & Style Exploration Artist (f/m/d)
We're seeking a highly agile and creative 2D artist to join our team as a freelancer, focusing on rapid style exploration for new casual mobile game concepts. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys pushing creative boundaries, working tightly together with the art director, and iterating on audience feedback.

Responsibilities

    • Rapidly produce a high volume of visually compelling concept art that combines characters, environments, and props, focusing on simple casual game aesthetics, to test potential game styles.
    • Demonstrate strong 2D art skills with the ability to quickly sketch and iterate on concepts.
    • Utilize 3D low-poly/blockout skills to create simple scene layouts for rapid visualization.
    • Use AI in smart ways to incorporate into a workflow to create fast iterations in different styles. Adapt AI usage flexibly to enhance and speed up the workflow. There will be no simple prompting.
    • Generate multiple style variations from a single design, exploring a wide range of visual directions.
    • Maintain a high level of communication, presenting designs and progress early and frequently.
    • Adapt quickly to diverse topics and project requirements, demonstrating exceptional agility.
    • Contribute fresh, innovative ideas to shape the visual direction of our projects.
    • Participate in visual critiques and brainstorming sessions to refine and expand upon creative concepts.

Requirements

    • 2-5 years of professional experience in 2D concept art.
    • Strong proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and other relevant digital art tools.
    • Excellent sketching skills, with the ability to produce loose and rapid iterations.
    • Strong understanding of casual and hyper-casual game visual styles.
    • Ability to quickly translate creative briefs into visually engaging concepts.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • Openness to ethically integrating AI tools as a supportive tool in the creative process, ensuring human-led artistic direction.
    • Portfolio demonstrating a wide range of artistic styles and strong visual communication.
    • Strong background in art fundamentals.
    • Experience with super cartoony styles.
    • Availability during European working hours is required for collaboration.

      • Important Note: The AI tools will exclusively be used for rapid style testing to identify audience preferences in UA campaigns. These  images will not be used in the final game; they serve only as a stylistic base for further development.

Desirable Skills

    • Knowledge of Blender for basic 3D low-poly/blockout.
