About the role

As the first Accounting & Finance hire at Momence, this is an exciting opportunity to shape our financial foundation from the ground up. The Controller will oversee Momence’s accounting operations. They will also establish accounting policies, financial controls, and guidelines that will be applied across the business’s G&A and leadership teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate in-depth knowledge of accounting policies, financial management principles, and have extensive experience in similar roles. The Controller will be responsible for managing the company’s relationship with Clubessential Holdings’ external audit team including completing audit requests and writing the audit report financial footnotes. They will be the point person accountable for the financial and covenant reporting associated with the company’s publicly held debt and will assist with corporate governance, organizational filings, and maintaining corporate records. The ideal candidate will be someone whose expertise translates into optimized financial operations and increased profitability.

This is a full time, fully remote, employed position, for which we’re considering candidates residing in the United States, able to support customers in U.S. time zones.


What you will do

  • Direct and manage the application of accounting principles, practices, and procedures for the maintenance of fiscal records and preparation of consolidated financial reports.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly and annual close timeline and reporting requirements.
  • Oversee all daily operations of those members in the accounting department that handle corporate accounts payable, journal entries, establishing accruals, banking, and performing analytical analysis over all account balances and statements.
  • Coordinate external audits, filings of corporate records, and financial transactions to ensure compliance with applicable GAAP standards and local, state, and federal statutes.
  • Establish, document, monitor, and enforce internal controls over financial reporting to ensure compliance with all internal policies (e.g. delegation of authority, balance sheet reconciliations, etc.) and reporting regulations.
  • Monitor cashflow activities and direct cash transfers between business units bank accounts to ensure corporate cash flow needs and debt obligations are met.
  • Build a working capital cash flow model and associated financial metrics to project and manage cash flow across the organization.
  • Responsible for reporting to external parties including private equity owners and public debt holders.
  • Supervise the Sage Intacct general ledger administration along with optimizing subledger software programs with a mindset for future system migrations to streamline workflows.
  • Ensure federal, state, local and underwriting filings are current and updated in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update corporate records such as shareholder resolutions, capitalization table, subsidiary purchase agreements, corporate facility and operating leases, delegation of authority guidelines, vendor contracts, and accounting policies.
  • Collaborate with business unit leadership to share best practices and promote a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.


What you should have

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5-8 years of accounting management experience in the SMB market.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting standards and industry regulations. Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting desired.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build strong collaborative working relationships with business partners and executives.
  • Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independent judgment, discretion, integrity and confidentiality.
  • Process improvement mindset leveraging information systems and advanced MS Excel skills.
  • Ability to teach financial concepts and practices to non-financial-oriented individuals and impact financial results.


We’ll be particularly excited if you also have

  • A progressive accounting career, with relevant experience in the technology or SaaS industry will be strongly considered.
  • Experience working in a rapidly growing and ambiguous environment where problem-solving and ownership are critical to success.
  • Experience establishing GAAP-compliant accounting functions from the ground up in a startup environment.
